Has The Nice HST Process Been A Success? Comparison With Other European HTA Bodies

Since April 2013, the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has formally taken on the appraisal of Highly Specialized Technologies (HST) defined as those “for use in the provision of services for rare and very rare conditions” with a distinct appraisal framework for their evaluation. This research aims to compare NICE appraisal outcomes and times for HST with those provided by other European Health Technology Appraisal (HTA) bodies.
