PAREXEL - Paul Evans Discusses the PAREXEL Site Alliance Network
The PAREXEL Site Alliance Network is a response to the challenge that we all face in this industry of how do you get better relationships with sites and through those better relationships, get improved patient recruitment? Our network is, at the moment, about 220 multidisciplinary hospitals and 11 strategic SMOs. We will develop that up to 400, so it’s a work in progress as far as we’re concerned. But the whole philosophy around this is to have long term strategic relationships with these key partners rather than short term tactical ones. One of the challenges of working in this area is that the industry has always worked on a short term “build and break” mentality so a set of sites will be established to take part in a trial and when the trial ends, those sites are broken down and we move on to the next trial. That develops a certain type of relationship which doesn’t lend itself to improvement over time. We have a team of strategic relationship managers who work with our alliance sites and look at improvement across the board. It’s not just about delivery on one trial. Of course it’s about delivering on the trials we have today but it’s also about how do we help to improve those sites so that our future trials will have even better outcomes? What we found as a result of that is that the site improves and we get more patients per site so everyone is gaining from that.
